Awkward Third-Person Bio

Adam Scott is a technology leader with a passion for building things on the web and helping others do the same.

His journey started in 1997 when a friend showed him View Source in their high school library. Having access to the code behind web pages blew his mind, and he's been hooked ever since. He spent his teenage years building websites, borrowing bits of code he liked to create his own projects, including a music site that somehow gained enough popularity to get him promotional CDs and concert guest lists.

Over the past 20 years, Adam has worked at the intersection of technology and education, leading engineering teams, teaching web development, and writing about the technologies he loves. He's been fortunate to work on projects that serve millions of users, always with a focus on creating inclusive teams and accessible digital experiences that work for everyone.

As an author, Adam has written several books about JavaScript and web development for O'Reilly Media, including JavaScript Cookbook and JavaScript Everywhere. He's also taught as adjunct faculty at universities, developing curricula for web design and computer science courses. Whether he's leading a team, writing code, or teaching, he's driven by the same thing that excited him as a teenager: the potential of technology to connect people and create opportunities.

Adam believes strongly in ethical software development, open-source initiatives, and a just society. The same technologies he was experimenting with 20+ years ago can now build powerful applications and he's passionate about ensuring these tools are used to create positive change.

Adam lives in Connecticut with his wife, three children, three cats, and two dogs. When he's not at his computer, you'll probably find him outdoors with his family, walking his dogs, or reading a good book.
